What We Fund

Grants are made to 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations that best align with the Foundation's funding priorities. Through the Zilber Neighborhood Initiative, the Foundation supports improvement efforts in Lindsay Heights, Clarke Square, Layton Park, Burnham Park, and Silver City with grants for general operating expenses, organizing and planning, project implementation, and technical assistance. The Foundation also makes grants each year in Milwaukee and Hawai’i to address basic needs and personal safety; increase access to social and economic opportunity; and improve the quality of life in neighborhoods.

Zilber Neighborhood Initiative

In 2008, the Foundation announced a 10-year commitment to improve the quality of life in Milwaukee neighborhoods (Lindsay Heights, Clarke Square, Layton Park, Burnham Park, and Silver City). Since 2008 it has awarded approximately $29 million to community groups and other nonprofit organizations in five Milwaukee neighborhoods, and helped them leverage nearly $54 million in additional funds for their neighborhoods.

Other Grants

In recent years, the Foundation has pledged $30 million to Marquette University to fund scholarships and other programs and $10 million to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee to establish the Zilber School of Public Health. The Zilber Family Foundation also makes a limited number of grants each year to eligible organizations to more generally benefit people in Milwaukee and Hawai’i. These include major grants to Aurora VNA Zilber Family Hospice, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Milwaukee, Castle Medical Center, Discovery World, Sojourner Family Peace Center, and United Way. Occasionally the Foundation makes grants to nonprofit organizations to honor or match the charitable contributions of employees of Zilber Ltd.
