Live Dealer Casinos

Most online casino games resemble video games more than they resemble the games you’d expect to play in a Vegas casino. The animation can be sharp and the sound effects realistic, but for some players, something is missing. For those players, live dealer casino games (or Webcam casinos) might be the answer. These are casinos which offers real table games dealt by real people (usually attractive and exotic women).

These casinos usually feature the ability to communicate with the dealer while you play. You can sometimes even communicate with the other players at the table. Suspicious casino players might feel like they’re less likely to get cheated since the dealer is using a real deck of cards instead of a random number generator computer program.

Unlike most online casinos, it’s rare to be able to get to try out the casino games for free at a live dealer casino. It might make sense to offer unlimited free games if you’re just taking up a little bandwidth on the server. But when you’re actually paying real people to deal the games, you can’t afford to have them dealing to people who aren’t risking any money. It’s been my experience, though, the most reputable live dealer casinos will let you try a hand or two for free just to try out the site and see how you like it.

Of course, most live dealer casino games are table games. Slot machines and video poker games don’t have dealers anyway. They’re almost all video games by default these days, anyway. Many live dealer casinos do offer slot machines and video poker, though—they’re just powered by a traditional software package. In fact, this works both ways. Some traditional online casinos are now offering live dealer games as a way to increase the options available to their players.

Live Dealer Baccarat

Baccarat is one of the most popular games in the world, although its star seems to be fading in the United States. But in Macao, baccarat is far and away the most popular game in the casino. Live dealer baccarat is played in exactly the same way at an online casino as it would be in a traditional casino. The only real difference is that instead of sitting at the table with the dealer, you’re playing over a Webcam on your computer and theirs. All the strategy advice you’d read in any reasonable article about baccarat applies to the online, live dealer version of the game, too. It’s just a guessing game where strategy doesn’t matter.

Live Dealer Blackjack

Live dealer blackjack is a game that throws some optimistic online gamblers. Since it’s being dealt by a real dealer, some players make the mistake of thinking they might be able to count cards when playing. That is, in fact, not the case. Every Webcam casino I’m aware of shuffles continuously, which eliminates any edge you might be able to gain by counting cards. As with most online casinos, live dealer gambling sites usually offer multiple variants of the game. You should avoid any kind of side bet and look for the game with the lowest house edge. You might have to spend some time asking customer service questions about the rules at their casino in order to figure this out.

Live Dealer Roulette

Roulette, like baccarat, is purely a guessing game. No amount of skill can make you a winner at roulette. One thing to be careful of when trying to play live dealer roulette is that online casinos are sensitive to the Martingale System because of its potentially devastating effect on the casino’s bankroll. The system doesn’t work in the long run, but if you’ve collected a large bonus, you could theoretically use the Martingale to come close to getting a mathematical edge over the casino. If you get a choice between American style roulette and European style roulette, always go with the European game. The payouts are the same, but the wheel has one less zero, which decreases the house edge.

Other Games

Live dealer casinos don’t limit themselves to the games listed above. They just tend to be the most popular. House-banked versions of Texas hold’em poker are popular, for example. Variations on some of the games are available, too. At Codeta, one of the newer and more ambitious live dealer sites, a game called Baccarat Squeeze is offered. Most of the difference in this version is the emphasis placed on the squeeze itself, and they boast of having 15 different Webcams recording the action so that you can see every nuance while you play.

One other advantage to playing these kinds of games at a Webcam casino is that they usually offer higher limits than other properties. I’ve seen games with maximum bets in the $2000 range at live dealer casinos, while $500 per bet seems to be closer to the mark at most traditional, video-game type casinos online.
